SAP Web Reporting – How SAP Web Reporting Works

Now SAP Users who had the authorization can generate report accross the world wide web. The SAP Web reporting is a Web-RFC application that can be generated using a web browser.
The user now only need to type in the URL in the web browser, and then:
- They can start the report dynamically
- Store a pregenerated list in report trees
- Allow other user to browser report trees using a web reporting brower.
And not just static report because it also support interactive reporting that can process standard interactive screen events initiated by the user to get more detailed information on subsequent screens, they also can create links to other report pages.
But the SAP web reporting is not recommended for complex reporting, because it will affect the performance.

How the SAP Web Reporting Works?
The connection between the HTTP server and the SAP R/3 server is provided by the SAP internet transaction server (ITS), so whenever a user creates a web pages with url that link into the SAP R/3 system, and a user clicks one of these links, the request then will be forwarded to the ITS.
After that the ITS will communicate with the SAP R/3 system using Remote Function Call (RFC), and on the other side, a dispacther program (WWW_DISPATCH_REQUEST) will receive the requests and executes them when they arrive.
This graphic below is explaining the process of executing the report and generate the HTML output.
